View the eclipse with safety glasses from the Eye Clinic!
On April 8, Jackson will experience a partial solar eclipse. To safely view it, you’ll need some type of eclipse glasses.
And we have them! You can pick them up at one of our locations in Jackson or Henderson during regular office hours for $5.
These extra-dark shades block almost all light, protecting your retinas from damage while you observe the sun. Viewing the eclipse without glasses can burn a hole in your retina or damage it permanently.
While the moon will eclipse more than 90 percent of the sun over Jackson, residents are about an hour’s drive away to see the total eclipse. The shortest route is to take U.S. 412 to Dyersburg and to cross the I-155 bridge into southeast Missouri.
The eclipse begins just after 12:30 p.m., and totality begins shortly before 2 p.m., lasting for a few minutes. The partial eclipse will end about 3:15 p.m.
Safety glasses should be worn for all phases of the eclipse before and after totality. Enjoy it while you can! The next solar eclipse over West Tennessee won’t be until 2045.
The eclipse safety glasses are available at these clinic locations: 668 Skyline and 1340 Union University Drive in Jackson and 138 S. Washington Ave. in Henderson.
